good work , but i’m afraid you might be shooting yourself in the foot here… if your trying to get a shot with the TAS group, shouldn’t you be targeting for them in your vid instead of a fickle blog viewership?

Thanks for taking the time to watch AND comment Satya! I don’t think I’m shooting myself in the foot. My objective with this site is primarily as a personal outlet. I get to really “talk” about what’s going on with me, discuss how I’m leveraging the Internet to build the things I’m building (Konstructr, personal brand, etc.)… part of what I love to do is build communities and hopefully that’s something I can do here with the many people I interact with and meet.
With this particular piece I really just wanted to help people better understand the toolset on the Internet. Last week I did a talk in San Francisco and the one theme I heard over and over again is with the confusion of these tools like LinkedIn and twitter and Facebook. I did my best to explain that these are JUST tools like the fax, email, and cell phone but after my experience with applying for a position at The TAS Group I felt I would share how I used the tools.
To your point on targeting for The TAS Group – I guess that would become my objective if they hire me! But you bring up a great point and maybe I’ll leverage some of my sales “expertise” to share some of my thoughts on that subject matter.
Thanks for the comment. Even though I’ve replied it still has me thinking…
Strong video Vik. Good stuff. No foot shooting here, just a nice transparent look at an opportunity you are passionate about and how you are leveraging SM to give your self the best chance at scoring the position. What company would not love to see that?
Good luck. Cheers.
Wonderful!
I think everyone’s focused on providing value and being useful, or “being yourself” but really it’s more effective to be interesting, or remarkable, and stand out from the crowd. Of course, the first step is to do the thing, to use the tools available, but just using the tools isn’t going to do it. Beyond drive and ambition, there is the field of brilliant ideas and applied intelligence, and beyond that the actual application of brilliant ideas that ACTUALLY WORK. Of course, the beauty lies in the factors of the unknown…
In this case, if you were to be hired for the position it would be as a result of so many factors beyond your control, and yet you would be able to say , i did x y and z and look i achieved my goal. Which is something you see online a lot with people touting their market testing, sales techniques and social media tips. I guess the point is, the more clear you are on your overall goal and the more focused you are in achieving that goal, the more likely you are to succeed, no matter the tools you use.
As the saying goes, “a sword in the hands of a coward is useless” – but give a master carpenter a couple rusty old tools and she will build an empire.
