community over company: getting yours by giving!

October 15, 2008

I’m talking about giving to your community more than you give to the company you work for. Giving to your community will provide you with a return more than you could have anticipated. With what we are facing in today’s world, the more we give to our communities, the more we’ll get in return.

“Give and it shall be given unto to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and run over. For with the measure you deal out, it will be given back to you.” – Luke 6:38

No wonder it works, its part of God’s covenant.

One thing that people don’t give enough emphasis to is that you can be rich off more than just money. Having a strong network can be equally as enriching as having all the money in the world!

Giving back to the community gives me a great sense of pride and joy. I know it may sound cheesy, but that’s just the way it is. Many people give and never expect anything in return, and when they do get something in return, they know they have done something great. There have been times in my past where I have done something for the community, whether it be walking for the American Heart Association and donating money to help fund breast cancer research or cleaning up our local forests by picking up trash – I realize that I’m helping out in some way and that’s the least I could do for what the world has given me. The more I do for it, it will eventually give back to me – when I least expect it. I believe having this mindset in everything you do will ultimately make you successful.

Mr. Vik Duggal, how right you are. There are great rewards in giving to your community. In my younger days I was one of the first female full certified Volunteer Fireman. Yes, I drove the big truck, help put out fires, pulled people from accidents. I helped people from all aspects of life. In one of our meetings it was asked did it bother us women that we were call Firemen. My answer was NO. We were Volunteer Firemen. Helped people to see that a Volunteer has no race or gender. If in an accident do you look to see who is helping you or are you just glad someone is there. If child in a burning house are you going to look to see what race or class of person is putting there life on the line to save your child, or are you just relieved that someone is there. You’re right- Tricky Vik- Giving is Good. Have a great day. Liked reading the other comments. Gwen
