I decided to talk about my most recent move, where I’m headed next, and how you determine if professional changes are right for you. What was it like when you left your first job?

VikDuggal,
Awesome video man…I love how you explained the last 12 years of your life and how you’ve become even more successful with your role at Johnson Controls. It sounds like you got an amazing opportunity with konstructr.com and I’m looking forward to hearing more about it when we meet up.
My first (real) job was actually as a car salesman at Enterprise Car Sales (sub-division of Enterprise Rent-a-Car). I worked there for about a year and it was going well until I realized that I had to do something more with my degree (MIS) and started pursuing opportunities and ran into the amazing TLP program at WaMu. When I left Enterprise, I must admit it was tough…but a mans gotta do what’s best for him…and I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. I’m absolutely enjoying what I’m doing, focusing on project management within information technology and effectively developing my leadership skills further. I’ll leave it at that but just a brief summary of where I’ve been these past 2 years. Thanks.
Vik, good post. It’s an interesting to reminisce on old jobs.
When I first left my first job, with an unknown future, it was a big scary, yet exciting! I know what I was doing previous wasn’t what I wanted to do long term, and there were more exciting things out there, I just didn’t know what they were…yet.
Looking back at where I am…I don’t think I could’ve ever predicted how my situation would alter over time, and for me it was for the better!
What is the new role you’ll be taking over with the new company? What company is it?
Cheers,
-Michael
PS The mic quality is a bit strange…doesn’t sound like you.
Vik, nice video, glad to see that you’re moving forward with things.
What are your plans as far as your side projects like Konstructr. I saw your message about you having questions but unfortunately am swamped. Wanna ping me with an email and maybe include those questions?
First job, I really wish I was 22 again! Those were the days, minimal responsibility and a home cooked meal ready on the table (and shopping of course)! Many years later, my life in a nutshell is:
-Wake up at 5:00 am – go running
-Get both kids ready and off to school for kid 1 and to the nanny for kid 2
-Get myself ready for work
-TRY to get to work navigating through traffic before 10am
-Stress at work and satisfy my government client
-Work through lunch without eating lunch
-Rush home navigating through traffic at 6pm
-Cook Dinner for the family, feed the family, tidy the house, clean the kids, play and read to the kids, get the family ready for bed, put the kids to bed, sit at the computer and surf random sites like I am doing now, then go to bed, to start the day ALL over again by Waking up at 5:00 am and going running.
Did I mention… CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am proud of you!
